PA School Spotlight: USF Morsani PA Program

By: Savanna Perry, PA-C

TL;DR

The USF Morsani College of Medicine PA program is a 24-month program with a class size of about 40. A current student shares that the program's downtown Tampa location gives strong ties to teaching hospitals like TGH, Moffitt, and the VA, with many rotation sites within a 10-mile radius. Because it's a newer program, students have a real voice in shaping it through leadership roles and faculty feedback.

What is the USF Morsani PA program like?

The USF Morsani College of Medicine PA program runs 24 months with a class size of around 40. [VERIFY] The student featured here is a third-generation USF Bull who chose the program for its location near family and her husband's work, and for the excitement of her alma mater opening a PA program.

A big draw is the downtown Tampa expansion. As USF MCOM moves downtown, the program gains even stronger ties to top hospitals in the area, which means more rotation and job opportunities right where students already live and want to stay.

In this post:

What makes the program unique?

Location and clinical access stand out. The program sits in the middle of a major medical campus, and many rotation sites fall within a 10-mile radius, several of them on USF property. Five rotation sites, including Moffitt, Morsani, the VA, Shriners, and a local hospital partner, are described as within walking distance. [VERIFY]

Because this is one of the program's early cohorts, students get to influence how it develops. Several hold leadership positions and meet with faculty every few weeks to discuss changes and improvements. If you like the idea of helping shape a program rather than just moving through it, that's a real perk.

In Our Experience

Spotlights like this one are some of our favorite things to share, because hearing directly from a current student tells you what a program actually feels like. We're grateful to the students who take the time to give back to future applicants this way.

What study tips and advice does the student share?

For study resources, she uses a mix rather than just one tool, including Osmosis, SmartyPANCE, PANCE Prep Pearls, and various review and recertification books.

Her honest take on the hardest part: you can't really grasp the drinking-from-a-fire-hose volume of material until you're in it. You study constantly, and there's no way around it, but at least you're learning something you love. Her top advice is that stress is your number one enemy. You will be stressed, and exam weeks are the worst, but find a real stress reliever and give yourself breaks. Take mental and social breaks, because it's a long journey full of hard work and you deserve them.
