PA School Spotlight: Wayne State University

The program sits in the center of Detroit's medical campus and uses WSU School of Medicine resources like the clinical skills testing center and the human cadaver dissection lab.

Tuition is a standout. The student notes WSU's PA program tuition is significantly lower than other programs in Michigan and across the nation. [VERIFY] Beyond cost, the program's location in a large Detroit medical campus means there are women's, children's, and heart hospitals nearby, and lectures are sometimes taught by experts coming straight from clinic.

One of her favorite features is the early site visits. Starting first semester, students see real patients in the hospital, take a history and physical, and write it up. That early exposure makes the work feel real and serves as a motivating reminder of the end goal: becoming a PA-C.

For study resources, she leans on PANCE Prep Pearls for high-yield diseases and their hallmarks, First Aid books when she wants to go deeper into a system or disease, and Rosh Review at the end of studying to test her understanding and solidify concepts.

Her hardest adjustment was the sheer amount of classroom time and workload, with lectures Monday through Friday from roughly 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., then learning the material at home. Her advice for other students is to not compare yourself to others, which she admits is hard. Do what has worked for you in the past, tweak it for the heavier volume, and don't lose the foundation of your study methods. And don't try to know every tiny detail. Learn the hallmarks of each disease, have confidence in yourself, and know it's okay to cry sometimes too.
