FAQs:

  • What makes you qualified to help me get into PA school?
    • Graduate of the Medical College of Georgia in 2014
    • Lecturer for Dermatology section at MCG
    • October 2015 - Speaker at FSU Pre-PA Club
    • Besides just listing achievements, I was accepted to 2 of the 4 schools I applied to during my first cycle, and I graduated with a job lined up and successfully passed PANCE.  I tend to research things to death, and if I wasn't actually a PA, I would love to be an advisor or in academics to help students achieve their educational goals.  While I was in school, I helped out with interviews since I was from the area and stuck around more than other students (and I also really enjoyed helping).  This gave me an inside look at how they pick candidates and what they are looking for at interviews, and now I impart that information to you!
  • What were your stats as an applicant?
    • I applied in the 2011-2012 cycle
    • Overall GPA: 3.58
    • Science GPA: 3.48
    • Age at application: 21
    • GRE: Old scale - 710 quant/640 qual/5 analytic
    • HCE - 250 hours as CNA
    • Shadowing - 125 hrs in Dermatology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Sports Orthopedics, Back and Spine
    • Other - Hospice volunteering, Leadership for 3 years with Wesley Foundation at UGA, 2 overseas mission trips, Golden Harvest Foodbank Volunteering
  • Why do you like to do this in your free time?
    • I love writing and researching, which I don't get to do as much in clinical practice as a PA, so that was a big influence in starting this site.  My husband is a medical student and will soon be a resident, so he stays busy studying, so I have some free time on my hands.
  • What's the best part about being a PA?
    • Getting to see patients and being challenged by patients with difficult diseases.  As much as I love the normal stuff and making patients better (that's a great part too), I actually really like it when a patient comes in with something I've never seen and I get to learn how to manage it.
  • What's the worst part about PA school?
    • The intense workload.  Be prepared to study pretty much 24/7, but it's totally worth it and prepares you for how busy you'll be in the real world.
  • Can I shadow you?
    • Due to The PA Platform being separate from my everyday full time job, I am not able to have clients shadow.  And due to the very intimate nature of dermatology (aka - most people have to take their clothes off), the practice is very selective in when students are able to come.  I will update this site if this policy changes.
